Negotiation strategy for E7 and beyond

I have been growing my career from Google since L3 to L6 the latest.

Currently I have an offer as meta E7 Principal MLE which is around 2x my TC.

What would be the best negotiation strategy for principal+ level?

It has been a long while since I negotiate and am not sure if there is an optimum negotiation strategy for E7+ levels at meta.

    Wow, 2x your total compensation?! And you're already a Staff Engineer [E6] at Google, that's crazy 🤯. Congratulations. Could you share what domain you work on, and what the interview process was like?

    Negotiation is all about leverage.

    • The fact that you received an offer at E7 has already created leverage, since very few engineers get hired at that level (most E7s and above are promoted internally). So the hiring team at Meta must think you're very good.
    • Since your current comp at Google is so much lower, I would not even bring it up. It can only hurt you if they realize how little you're getting paid.
    • Without another offer, the main ammunition you have is to talk about why you think you're worth more and the projected TC range of other companies that you're still talking to.
    • If you are not in conversation with other companies, you can still increase a meaningful bump with the Closing The Deal tactic: just say "I'll sign the offer today if you can offer $50K extra as a sign-on bonus." $50K is a large sum of money for you and your family, but Meta will happily take that deal since they've already invested so much time in you.

    Hi it is recsys related. I think I was lucky to have the exact skillset needed. But overly concerned on negotiation and onboarding since I heard Meta has different culture from Google
