Joining AWS vs waiting to finish Meta loop

Hi team,

I currently work as a Software Engineer (5 months in the role) at a mid-sized firm. I recently received an offer for the new grad SDE role at AWS with a start date in first week of December.

I also just heard back from Meta that they would like to proceed with virtual loop for their new grad SDE role. Given I clear the virtual loop, I am guessing the team matching phase takes a few weeks.

Would you recommend I join AWS meanwhile or push the start date at AWS and complete my virtual loop with Meta?

I am excited about the work at AWS based off of what I learnt from my hiring manager!

I think you should first decide, in case you have 2 offers, which one you would join, if that's the AWS, then you have your answer.

If you still want to explore both, you can reach reach out to the recruiter telling him you already have an offer and would like to accelerate the process.

The recruiter for amazon might not push the start date or decision deadline too far, but you should try.

I would avoid setting a start date, then eventually joining another place, it will be perceived negatively, as the team might stop their search once they hire you.

As anamazonsde mentioned, you should immediately go back to Meta and mention that you have a competing Big Tech offer with a team you're excited about. You have a ton of leverage here as all the Big Tech companies are fierce competitors against one another for talent, and you can probably speed run the Meta interview.

The worst case is that you get a Meta offer after starting at Amazon. In that case you could theoretically quit Amazon super quickly to join Meta (Meta usually pays more and gives far better raises), but that would most likely get you blacklisted from Amazon forever, which isn't great...
