Hello, I got accepted to YC AI Startup School which happens from June 16-17 (flying back on the 18th). However, I have not even started my internship, and I am scared to ask my engineering manager because it seems like a bad look for that to be the first thing I request. For context I'm doing an AI SWE internship at Notion. What do I do?
When does your Notion internship start and how big is the YC commitment? If it's shortly after your internship starts and it's a full-day thing, you should probably just drop the YC thing as it would make you look really bad. Converting Notion into a full-time offer should be your #1 priority by a massive margin.
Hi Alex, my internship is from May 19th to Aug 8th. The event is June 16-17 and I fly back on the 18th. Apparently it's a full-day thing on both the 16th and 17th (both are weekdays). Based on that, would you drop it?
Based on that, would you drop it?
100%. Just vanishing for 3 full days less than 1 month into your internship would nuke your chances for sure.
Notion is a top-tier startup that is full of AI potential, so if your goal is to become an AI founder someday, Notion is still conducive to that goal. YC is definitely amazing (I can personally attest to that), but it's not too bad that you'll miss it.
Okay thank you, that was the hard answer I needed.
Just say you got into this program and it's an opportunity you really want to attend. You can see if you can work remotely for those days to help make things easier.
