Senior Frontend Engineer Interview Experience - Auckland, New Zealand
Process
The process has been very straightforward.
I applied via LinkedIn and received a call from HR on the same day.
I was booked for an official phone call (1 hour long), during which the upcoming interviews were explained in thorough detail.
1st Interview: Browser Coding This was very simple and easy to prepare for, with tons of resources available on Glassdoor and Google. Although I thought I had messed up, I received great feedback and was very happy with the process.
2nd Interview: Javascript Coding This was also very straightforward. I was able to complete all the tasks requested and felt more confident than during the first test. However, the feedback wasn't as great as the first. Overall, I passed the test. I'm more accustomed to TypeScript, but I prepared my environment with vanilla Node.js with Express. It's recommended to fully prepare your environment with your most comfortable setup.
3rd Interview: System Design I completely messed up. Make sure to watch videos and read documentation thoroughly to fully understand what they are looking for.
I received a phone call from HR and was told that I had received negative feedback on the System Design. It was my very first system design interview, and I should have prepared more for it.
The whole process with HR has been the most exciting and enjoyable experience I've ever had. She was happy to refer me again once I'm eligible to apply next year. Looking forward to the next round, I guess.

Big products move slow. Teams working on the same area of the product are often misaligned on changes. One team undoes what the other planned, or their work is conflicting. A lot of the focus now is to achieve the goals to get a good performance review, moving the focus from delivering a good product to the customers to producing proof that you are useful to the big corp.
