- Karat phone screen
- On-site: 5 rounds with Atlassian employees (2 coding, 1 system design, 2 behavioral)
I spent about one month interviewing with Atlassian, making it through all the 'gates' with good feedback. Ultimately, the recruiter told me I had all 'hire' recommendations with some question marks, so the hiring committee decided not to proceed with an offer. The recruiter made it sound like there was a potential for a downlevel, but that didn't happen. Overall, I'd expect to spend a lot of time in the interview process.
It is a difficult job market, so even if the interviewers give a 'hire' recommendation, you can still be rejected. I would have preferred to be rejected after the first round, but I was strung along, which gave me a negative experience overall.

They keep track of your pull request count, number of interviews, and number of participations in HOTs and post-incident reviews. All of that counts when they do the performance review. Big products move slow. Teams working on the same area of the product are often misaligned on changes. One team undoes what the other planned, or their work is conflicting. A lot of the focus now is to achieve the goals to get a good performance review, moving the focus from delivering a good product to the customers to producing proof that you are useful to the big corp.
