Super easy to get into because turnover is so high. Pay is not bad, but not top tier either.
The performance management system they have is absolutely ludicrous. Basically, they fire 15 to 25% of all software engineers every year. That alone wouldn't be so bad, but it creates a work environment with constant backstabbing, lying, etc.
There are other companies that have a similar model, but they pay significantly more than Capital One. For example, at Amazon, a senior SWE makes an average of $397,682, according to Levels.fyi. At Capital One, a senior SWE makes $206,079. That's not at all in the same ballpark.
Get rid of mandatory PIP quotas.
Very long and useless online coding problems. LeetCode hard-level problems that don't apply in real life. I would definitely redesign the interview process. I wouldn't work there if these were the demands.
It was a good experience. Starting from the HR recruiter call, then the star power day interview. After the interview, they said they would take me for another software engineer position, but later, I did not get any response from them.
I had a coding test with 4 questions. Quite simple questions. Then, I had their power day with systems design, coding, case, and behavioral. It was all quite simple; the simplicity surprised me.
