The interview with the recruiter went well, but it took them time to schedule the pair programming interview. That was where my interview stage ended with them.
Questions
During the interview, you were sent a scaffold of the code in Node.js. You were asked to code up a solution with the test passing, and then asked to move the test around to see what breaks.

Pros: - Interesting domain (payments).
- Nice perks such as occasional free lunches, drinks, a company trip, and parties.
- The "People" team seems better than usual HR at most companies.
- Lots of ambitious projects with modern technology (e.g., .NET Core 3.0, DynamoDB).
- Twice-yearly reviews.
Cons: Non-technical people in product roles are a frequent source of frustration.
Some of the longer-serving developers aren’t great.

Pros: Company culture guides everyone to work as a whole team with a single goal: to aspire to the best quality product for the clients.
Cons: In a fast-paced environment, processes are not always aligned with the scale-out.

Inexperienced and hostile leadership

Pros: The pay is decent, although better can be found elsewhere for high performers in the City.
Cons: The leadership is extremely inexperienced and recently hostile towards its employees. They treat everyone like children who don't know that things can be better or shouldn't be like they are at Checkout.com.
I thought I could slug it out for the somewhat decent pay, but it's just not good here. I would not recommend others join.
