Engineering Manager Interview Experience - Paris, France

Process

The interview process began with a chat with HR, followed by a technical coding interview. After the first coding interview, I had the choice between another coding interview or a take-home exercise.

I opted for the take-home exercise. However, completing it sufficiently requires more than the stated 4 hours, unless one knows the specific algorithm solution off the top of their head.

My solution was accepted, but the company later closed the Engineering Manager (EM) position and informed me after I had waited for about three weeks. They did not offer a Software Engineer (SWE) position as an alternative, even though I had passed all technical interviews up to that point. This felt like a bit of a waste of time.

In the end, they anticipated the 2022 downturn and did not overhire, which is commendable.
