The most generous way I could describe it is "adequate."

Pros

They are hiring a lot of younger folks, which is good news for new grads. They have a number of decent long-term projects, and as long as you're getting your work done, you have good job security.

Cons

They underpay, hard. They are not competitive, especially at the entry level. Older, long-time employees have benefits that new employees can't even get anymore (smaller PTO ceiling, etc.). Generally, the government contracts work with outdated technology or in-house stuff that nobody outside would have even heard of because nobody else uses it. There are popular, well-functioning alternatives in basically everything. Raises are done on a schedule and are incredibly difficult to negotiate.
