Process

The first round was a third-party coding interview with a company called Karat. This interview is the same one software engineers go through, and preparation and practice are required to do well in this round.

After the Karat interview, there were two days of interviews with Indeed staff. I completed another coding interview similar to the Karat round, followed by an automation code review. During this review, I examined three files (framework, page object, and tests) and provided feedback as if I were reviewing the code prior to a merge.

The second day of interviews built upon the first. I used the code from the code review to write automated tests for an Indeed application. Then, there was a mentorship round where I had to teach the concept of arrays to a "beginner." The final interview was with the QA manager, and we discussed the role and general questions related to automation and soft skills in the office.

I felt the Karat portion of the interview was the hardest part, possibly because this type of coding exercise is not necessarily similar to what an automation engineer does in their day-to-day job. The other areas of the interview felt easier, mostly because they related to tasks I perform regularly.

The recruiter did a fantastic job of preparing me for the interview. It was difficult, but they provided all the necessary information to prepare and succeed.
