Process

It was a little bit long but very satisfying and great.

You start with a phone call with HR. After that, they ask you to complete a test (you have one week to do it). Then, you have another interview with Game Developers to discuss your test. Following that, there's another interview with producers, the creative director, and the head of studio. Finally, there's another interview with HR.

Between each interview, I waited more or less one week.

The people were very kind!

The best and worst job I had

Pros: Very talented people, lots to learn about game development and technology, and good benefits, although less than before.

Cons: When I joined King 6 years ago, it was an amazing company and getting in seemed like the greatest achievement of my life. The people were really friendly and talented, and the company had a very healthy culture oriented towards personal growth and making great games. All these have changed after the acquisition. A fairly flat organization before, King has transformed into this 20+ layers of management corporation. It is no longer a developer driven company, and the focus has shifted from making great games to making money. Around half of the people working there don't do anything useful; they just sit in meetings and drink coffee. As it happens, those people who have the most power. There is a lot of politics that affect even the people in production. A lot of things happen behind closed doors and you can never be sure of what the next decision will be. As I said in the title, this was my best job when I got it, but towards the end, it was the worst. A lot of the people who spent a few years in King can see all these problems, and those who did not leave yet, are thinking to leave. Morale is quite low, but it's covered by a layer of "happy, happy, joy, joy" forcefully pushed from above. Management is trying to fix all these fundamental problems by organizing parties and bragging about how amazing the company is.
