Cons: No/little travel opportunities for those who want it. Work from home expenditures should have been paid out. Salaries are a little lower than Microsoft/Adobe, etc., but this is a first-world problem; I won't crib on that.

Pros: Cafeteria, not stressful. Individual office, very open approach towards code repositories and documentation.

Cons: * Low compensation -- they don't pay much, especially for experienced roles. * Old stack -- desktop-first approach to building software, and almost everything is based on MATLAB, when the entire world is moving towards web applications and microservices. Concurrency is an afterthought. Your career as a software developer will end up nowhere. * Old and broken infrastructure -- things that you depend on break all the time, the build is very slow, and it relies on decade-old tools that barely anyone still uses. * Average WFH policy -- forces us to come in 3 days a week, saying it is "following industry leaders". MathWorks is known for its WLB, but I guess that can be ignored for now. * Things move very slowly -- people talk about things in months and releases instead of days or weeks. * Lack of ownership -- people don't take up responsibility when things go wrong. * Do everything like a public company despite being a private company -- the company overhired and is now on a hiring freeze.

Pros: - This is a good place to work if this is your first job out of college (but do not get stuck here!). - The company has a good process to ramp up new hires. - Some of the in-house training opportunities are very good. - It is easy to have a good work/life balance in most teams. - Everybody in development gets nice private offices. - If you pay attention, you will learn software engineering working here. - The company purchases books for everyone. - Work/life balance can be very good. - Facilities are top-notch.

Cons: Pay scale is 10% to 30% below industry average. Bonus structure is not transparent, below industry average, and rigged to favor upper management positions. The company hires overqualified people for most positions. It is hard to develop transferable skills in most positions. Company is very process-heavy. Previous work experience, education, or training is not valued; all that matters is MathWorks tenure. Merit-based career advancement is slow to none. Lots of pushback and passive aggressiveness from company old-timers. The core values taught during orientation are only followed by individual contributors; management follows them or not depending on the circumstances. Everything gets reinvented in-house many times over. Too much process: plan on spending about half of your time in meetings. No telecommuting allowed. Family members are not welcome at many of the company party events; what company organizes parties with dancing and alcohol but does not allow you to bring your significant other?
