Process

I attended an informational session and received an email from a recruiter about a week later.

I then scheduled an on-campus interview, which was a one-on-one with someone at the Seattle office.

I was told I would hear back a couple of weeks later from the recruiter.

Microsoft Work Experiences

Good benefits and salary, with boring work and some problematic managers

Software Development Engineer • Former Employee

Herzliya, Israel

Pros: Good benefits and salary, very accommodating with regard to work hours. Overall, most of the people I worked with were good, intelligent engineers.

Cons: The work itself was boring and unchallenging, with slow processes and development tools. The company is slow to change, and feedback regarding products and features is usually overlooked. While some managers are amazing, others are abysmal, to the point of increasing employee churn rate around them. HR and Senior Management do not seem to care regarding this.

Great company, interesting projects. Politics sucks

Pros: I had the opportunity of working on interesting projects with smart people. It also comes with great benefits. I would recommend.

Cons: The politics suck. Leadership does not know where they are going. Things are changing, so hopefully it is for the better.

Working at Microsoft

Software Development Engineer • Former Employee

Timişoara, Timiș, Romania

Pros: The paycheck was good. I started as an intern and when I got hired after the internship, my salary grew to more than double. However, from what I understood from my colleagues, I was a bit underpaid, probably because I was a fresh graduate. There are plenty of benefits, but they depend on the headquarter.

Cons: The management system is not a good one. Each year, a manager has to have from his team an overachiever and an underachiever, no matter what he has to have these two. This builds competitiveness between coworkers.
