Process

I applied for the Co-op position and received an interview call through the university. It was a phone interview, scheduled for 45 minutes with a single interviewer. The questions covered data structures, operating systems, and since I had taken a network security course, a few questions on that topic. Overall, the questions were pretty basic. The interviewer was very curious about my thought process. Whenever I got stuck, he asked what I was thinking so he could guide me further.

Questions included:

  • Linked lists
  • How to find a duplicate in a linked list
  • Pros and cons of singly and doubly linked lists
  • Arrays and array lists
  • How to implement an array list without using the array list concept
  • How to increase the size of an array dynamically
  • Complexity (Big O)
  • Threads and processes
  • How spaces are allocated by the OS to them
  • Layers in the network
  • Protocols used at the network layer
  • Difference between TCP and UDP
  • Which is best
  • Examples of TCP and UDP.
