Pros: Joined a few months ago, and I've been impressed with how it's been. My previous job was at a slightly smaller tech startup, and compared to them, Notion feels way more put together. I'm sure the day-to-day at Notion is more chaotic compared to at large companies (full disclosure: I've never worked at a large company, so I can't directly compare). Still, expectations feel reasonable yet exciting, and everyone cares a lot about quality. Culture-wise, I notice a good amount of quiet folks, but there are definitely high-energy people as well. People have great communication skills, and the documentation-focused culture pays dividends as we scale. The US offices have recently opened up, so we're still exploring how we work together in-person. From what I can tell, Notion takes DEI seriously and puts actual skin in the game. On top of that, I appreciate how proactive the People teams and Office Environment teams are about incentivizing people to get to know each other. For the company size, there are a lot of perks, and overall I feel taken care of.

Cons: Most cons that come to mind are pretty minor. Teams occasionally reshuffle. I've been around for less than a year though, and so far the team changes have been small and reasonable. We're hiring more designers and product managers, so in the meantime, those areas can feel like a bottleneck. One thing to call out is Notion's remote policy. I personally like hybrid (we require 2 days in-office), but for those who prefer fully remote, this is probably a big con. I don't envision Notion moving closer to a fully remote policy anytime soon. And of course, I have to mention the competition. Everyone at Notion is aware that there are tons of competitors in this space. Some days I worry whether our strategies will pay off, but most days I feel like we're on solid ground. In the midst of these layoffs, I'm optimistic that Notion will be fine.

Pros: - Control over assigned projects in terms of execution and timeline - Great culture

Cons: - Can be a bit chaotic; - Communication gaps during the initial acquisition period

Pros: An incredibly inclusive and caring group of people. There's a noted emphasis on recognizing and respecting our co-workers' and customers' backgrounds. This helps us build better processes internally and better features externally. The engineering org cares a lot about the little details. If you've ever used the app and been pleasantly surprised at something that "just works", it's because the people at this company have really put thought into the value of any individual feature. Leadership recognizes the importance of having reliable infrastructure and focusing on performance of the app. It allows the eng team to take the time to build for scale and performance.

Cons: - The company is growing fast, and teams and processes are changing fast as a result. Priorities and projects may shift unexpectedly. You'll need to come with the expectation that nothing is written in stone and processes are subject to change; the good thing is that you can be a defining voice to help guide these changes. - Not open to remote work, which has and will continue to impact recruiting efforts.
