Process

I applied online in January and received feedback from recruiters after one week. All processes were completed remotely.

The first round was a Life Story Interview. You'll discuss your work experience, school experience, and life experience. I began my story from high school. There were no technical questions.

The second round was a technical interview with two developers from Shopify. You should bring one to two projects to demo. They will ask about the architecture and design of your projects, and why you chose specific approaches. No algorithm questions were asked.

I received my offer a week after the technical interview.

Everyone at Shopify seems very nice. I definitely accepted the offer.

Pros: As a developer intern, I had the chance to make a significant impact on my team and the project I was assigned to. I was set up, on-boarded, and ready to start coding in less than a week. There were numerous opportunities and initiatives to not only work but to learn new skills relevant to my field and to read up on new technologies. There was constant and frequent feedback on how to improve and foster personal growth. Also, everyone is super friendly here, and the company tries to promote a very transparent environment. Overall, it was a great experience working here, and the company is only getting better and larger!

Cons: You need to take initiative and proactively ask for context on relevant areas if you want to keep productive and unblocked. This is both a pro and a con because there is strong cross-team collaboration, but also a lot of built-in understanding required before one can fully grasp how their feature contributes to the overall product.
