Very impressed by the overall interview process.

Recruiter Interview
Hiring Manager Interview - The hiring manager tried to find out my fit for the position. They asked intelligent questions, focusing a lot more on leadership and team-related activities.
Department Head Interview - Focused on technical and leadership behavior.
Virtual Panel Interview - This consisted of 5 rounds: a) System Design - Provided a case and we discussed how to design a system. A very enjoyable experience; both interviewers were knowledgeable, and they made it a very interactive experience. b) Product Partnership - The goal was to find out how I would work with product. Several scenario-based questions from the real world, with a lot of focus on metrics. The interviewer seemed to understand this partnership very well. c) Fit for the Role - Lots of behavioral questions, with both technical and business scenarios. d) Technical Behavior Round - Behavioral questions from a technical point of view. e) Principal Engineer Chat - Another round of technical behavioral questions.

Overall, they are very thorough in the interview process. All interviewers showed interest in my profile and had great questions to learn about me and if I would fit into the role. All of them were proud to work for Wayfair and always had the mindset that they are a technology company.

One thing I liked most is that after all interviews, the recruiter scheduled time to talk with me to communicate the rejection as well as provided feedback.

Pros: Wayfair has been an amazing place to work. It's a very collaborative environment, a cool office, and so many opportunities. It's the type of place where people are encouraged to pursue the work, projects, or roles that they're interested in, passionate about, or skilled at. Basically, if there's something you want to pursue, you aren't told no. You're expected to put together a plan, build consensus for your ideas, and make it happen. I've been here just over two years and I've worked previously at everything from small startups to companies much larger than Wayfair. I like that Wayfair has a small company feel and attitude in a lot of ways, but at the same time there are so many smart, helpful people to bounce ideas off of and work together with. We're very results-driven, and people are open to change.

Cons: The coffee is not great, but I've found that if you select double espresso on the machines and add that to a cup of ice with a little milk, it's pretty okay. Another downside is code review taking longer than it probably should, but there is an engineering-wide effort to put some new tools and processes in place to address that, and it looks quite promising.
