Security Engineer

Alinea is seeking a strong Security Engineer to join their team. This role offers two potential career paths: becoming a Head of Security or focusing on securing and optimizing infrastructure. The position involves working directly with the founding team to build, audit, and secure authentication, identity verification, and infrastructure systems.

As a Security Engineer at Alinea, you'll play a crucial role in protecting user data, ensuring compliance, and creating a secure investing experience for the next generation. The role requires collaboration with engineers, product managers, and leadership to implement security best practices and proactively identify vulnerabilities.

Alinea is a Y Combinator-backed startup that has raised over $5.5M from notable investors including Goodwater Capital, F7 Ventures, GFR, and Worklife Ventures. Their mission is to provide an investing platform specifically designed for Gen Z users.

Key Responsibilities:

• Managing authentication systems including phone verification, passwords, passkeys, and email verification
• Conducting security audits of the full API stack
• Implementing compliance measures, identity verification, and fraud prevention
• Performing penetration testing and risk mitigation
• Securing AWS deployments according to best practices
• Implementing rate limiting and protection against attacks
• Setting up firewalls and intrusion detection systems
• Collaborating with the engineering team on security controls
• Staying current with security standards and emerging threats

The ideal candidate should have:

• 3+ years of security engineering experience
• Deep knowledge of authentication protocols (OAuth, SAML, JWT)
• Experience with cloud infrastructure security (AWS, GCP, Azure)
• Expertise in penetration testing
• Understanding of compliance standards (SOC 2, GDPR, ISO 27001)
• Skills in configuring security systems and firewalls
• Strong problem-solving abilities
• Excellent communication skills
