Description For Automation Engineer

Amazon's Operations division is seeking an Automation Engineer to join their Reliability & Maintenance Engineering (RME) team. This role is crucial in maximizing equipment reliability and operational performance in Amazon's fulfillment centers through proactive controls automation and technical support. The position involves working with state-of-the-art technology including conveyors, sortation systems, scanners, and SCADA devices.

As an Automation Engineer, you'll be responsible for maintaining critical automation systems, collaborating with various teams including Operations, Engineering, and Safety to optimize material handling equipment (MHE) systems. You'll troubleshoot complex control systems, analyze performance metrics, and drive continuous improvement initiatives. The role requires expertise in PLC/PC controllers, industrial networks, and electrical distribution systems.

Responsibilities For Automation Engineer

  • Serve as the site expert for maintaining automation systems critical for operations
  • Collaborate with Operations, Engineering teams, FC Start-up Team, and Safety in supporting MHE systems optimization
  • Maintain and troubleshoot material handling control systems including PLC/PC controllers and industrial networks
  • Monitor MHE metrics and address system performance issues
  • Provide first-level escalation support for site technicians
  • Facilitate Failure Analysis and Incident Review processes
  • Perform and analyze building System Assessments

Requirements For Automation Engineer

Java
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, electrical engineering, automation engineering, or equivalent, or 2+ years of PLC programming experience
  • Experience with PLC-controlled automation in a continuous process environment
  • Experience with robotics work cells and control systems
  • Experience with Ladder Logic and structure programming from Siemens, Allen-Bradley, or Codesys PLCs
  • Experience with electrical theory, robotics, controls components, and automated equipment
  • Ability to work flexible schedule including weekends, nights, and holidays
