IT Application Engineer, World Wide Grocery Store Tech

Amazon's World Wide Grocery Store Tech (WWGST) Checkout Engineering team is seeking an Application Engineer to join their Austin-based team. This role focuses on developing and enhancing critical checkout applications for Whole Foods Market stores, including point-of-sale (POS) and self-checkout (SCO) systems.

The position combines technical expertise with domain knowledge in physical store checkout systems. You'll be responsible for designing and implementing robust, scalable solutions while working within a SAFe framework. Daily activities include progressing through a prioritized backlog of features and improvements, collaborating with cross-functional teams, and ensuring system performance and reliability.

As part of a "2-Pizza team", you'll work in an agile environment specializing in grocery technology. The role involves creating monitoring solutions, developing automated alerting systems, and performing gap analysis for checkout system configurations. You'll be instrumental in shaping the design and development of these critical systems while ensuring efficient operations and continuous improvement.

The ideal candidate should have experience with distributed systems, preferably in payment systems or POS, along with strong problem-solving skills and the ability to translate business requirements into technical solutions. Knowledge of payment security standards and retail/grocery technology ecosystems is valuable.
