As an Optical Material and Process Engineer at Amazon's DOT Hardware team, you will engage with an experienced cross-disciplinary staff to conceive and design innovative products. You will work closely with an internal inter-disciplinary team and outside partners to drive key optical material and process development to influence product definition, execution, and testing.
Key responsibilities include: • Developing optical materials and processes to support prototyping, product development, and mass production. • Working with cross-functional teams to convert product KPIs to material property requirements. • Developing and sourcing materials, processes, tools, and analytic methodologies to support product development. • Maintaining an overview of state-of-the-art technologies in glass, optical grade plastic, optical thin film, adhesives/binders, surface treatments, and nanostructure patterning.
The role requires 20% travel to suppliers and contract manufacturer sites worldwide. You must be responsive, flexible, and able to succeed within an open collaborative peer environment.
Qualifications: • 4+ years of experience in mechanical engineering or equivalent • Experience with prototyping and implementation • Knowledge of SolidWorks simulation or Ansys Finite Element analysis tools (preferred) • Experience in designing complex mechanical products and equipment at volume (preferred)
Amazon offers a competitive compensation package, including a base salary range of $105,600 to $185,000 per year, depending on the geographic market and other factors. The company also provides equity, sign-on payments, and a full range of medical, financial, and other benefits.
