AWS Infrastructure Services is seeking an Optical Network Development Engineer to join their Network Product Development (NPD) team within Core Networking. This role is crucial in building and maintaining the backbone of AWS's global infrastructure, supporting all AWS data centers and their critical components.
The position involves working with a diverse team of software, hardware, and network engineers to ensure AWS customers have continuous access to cloud services. The InterDC Optical Services team manages a network handling >10Pbps of inter-data center traffic over >30k devices worldwide, focusing on developing and supporting optical products that interconnect AWS Data Centers and Points of Presence (PoPs).
Key responsibilities include collaborating with vendors to evaluate and implement new hardware/software features, automating optical test plans, qualifying optical modules, and working with operations teams to improve quality and RMA processes. The role requires expertise in optical communication systems, networking planning, and automation using Python.
