Description For Optical Network Development Engineer, Network Product Development - Optics

AWS Infrastructure Services is seeking an Optical Network Development Engineer to join their Network Product Development (NPD) team. This role combines network engineering with Unix systems expertise to deliver sustainable solutions for AWS's global infrastructure. The position is crucial in driving the stability of next-generation IP networks.

The Core Networking team focuses on building and maintaining the critical infrastructure that powers AWS data centers. As an Optical Network Development Engineer, you'll work on solutions that allow racks to be aggregated and data centers to be interconnected, balancing efficiency, performance, and reliability to ensure seamless customer access.

Your responsibilities will include collaborating with vendors to evaluate and implement new hardware/software features, automating optical test plans, qualifying optical modules, and working closely with network operations to improve quality and RMA processes. You'll have the opportunity to influence industry standards and develop software tools while maintaining a highly available network.

The role offers exposure to AWS's massive scale networking challenges, where you'll develop innovative solutions to complex problems. You'll work closely with internal partners to design, build, and operate the network, ensuring solutions meet both technical and business requirements.

The position is part of the Network Product Development organization, responsible for hardware design, software development, and interconnect ownership for AWS's global network routers. Beyond product delivery, you'll actively manage the router fleet, tracking key metrics to ensure smooth operations and minimal customer impact.

  • 1+ years of experience working with optical and networking merchant silicon suppliers
  • 1+ years of professional development experience with Python or similar scripting language
