Description For Optical Network Development Engineer

If you like to work with new technologies and optimizing existing technology have experience participating in network/systems support for a large-scale enterprise or service provider environment, we would like to meet you. Your work will play a key role in driving the stability and sustainability of next-generation IP networks. AWS Infrastructure Services owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure.

As a Network Development Engineer in the Core Networking team's Inter-DC & Optical team, you will be responsible for building, deploying, and scaling Amazon networks that support AWS, customers, and other business units across multiple global datacenters. Key responsibilities include:

  • Creating and implementing network changes
  • Working with automation teams to define scaling tools
  • Leading network projects in various areas
  • Sustaining and troubleshooting AWS networks
  • Driving innovation in networking technologies
  • Collaborating with cross-functional teams
  • Maintaining networking standards and policies
  • Delivering sustainable solutions and processes

The InterDC Optical Services team is responsible for the development, delivery, and lifecycle support of optical products used to interconnect AWS Data Centers and PoPs. The current network size is >10Pbps of inter-data center traffic over >30k devices worldwide.

Responsibilities For Optical Network Development Engineer

  • Create and implement changes on the network
  • Work closely with automation teams in defining scaling tools
  • Lead network projects in various areas
  • Sustain AWS networks and provide critical network support
  • Operate and troubleshoot network routing and related issues
  • Drive and support innovation in networking technologies
  • Partner with broader Network/Infrastructure organization
  • Ensure smooth roll-out of new designs and products

Requirements For Optical Network Development Engineer

Python
Linux
  • 4+ years' experience in a network focused hands-on technical role working with IP routing protocols/technologies and platforms in large scale data center and/or WAN network environments
  • 4+ years' experience developing engineering, deployment, or operations mechanisms to support IP network and/or networking systems
  • 4+ years' experience in a technical on-call capacity, responding to customer impacting events, mitigating and root cause analysis of those events
  • 1+ years of experience in automation via Bash/shell scripting and Perl/Python programming
