Description For Robotics Control Engineer, Amazon Robotics

Amazon Robotics is seeking an experienced Robotics Control Engineer to join their team developing high-performance, real-time robotic systems for Amazon's fulfillment centers. This role combines expertise in control systems, robotics, and software engineering to create intelligent robotic solutions that can work safely and efficiently alongside humans.

The position involves working with a world-class team of experts in motion planning, control theory, computer vision, machine learning, and robotic hardware design. You'll be applying cutting-edge research to solve complex real-world challenges in areas like closed-loop control, robotic grasping, and manipulation in high-contact environments.

Key responsibilities include designing and improving system controls architecture, developing control code using Codesys platforms, implementing system optimizations, and working closely with hardware and software teams. You'll be involved in the entire development lifecycle from prototyping to production, including launching and debugging systems both in the lab and in the field.

The ideal candidate should have a strong background in mechanical or electrical engineering, experience with production motion control systems, and proficiency in programming languages like C++ and PLC platforms. Knowledge of IEC standards, functional safety, and systems engineering fundamentals is essential.

Responsibilities For Robotics Control Engineer, Amazon Robotics

  • Design and improve system controls architecture including machine control code, networking, electrical design and safety design
  • Develop controls code utilizing structured text on Codesys platforms
  • Identify and implement system optimizations
  • Work with hardware and software teams on scalable, real-time implementations
  • Launch, test, and debug systems in lab and field
  • Develop tools and practices for system monitoring and troubleshooting
  • Work with stakeholders to iterate on systems design
  • Contribute to value engineering of electrical and controls hardware components

Requirements For Robotics Control Engineer, Amazon Robotics

  • BS / MS Mechanical or Electrical Engineering (or similar field)
  • Experience with design/architecture of new and existing systems
  • Experience with at least one software programming language
  • Experience developing production motion control systems for robotics/automation
  • Experience with C++, CodeSys, Allen-Bradley PLCs, Siemens PLCs
  • Experience with IEC standards for programming controls for robotics
  • Knowledge of systems engineering fundamentals
  • Experience with Functional Safety standards
  • Strong debugging skills
