Description For Security Engineer, AWS Cloud Security Response

Join AWS Cloud Security Response team as a Security Engineer, where security is considered job zero. This role combines tactical incident response with strategic thinking to protect AWS Cloud services and customers. You'll work on the AWS side of the Shared Responsibility Model, managing security incidents at massive scale while developing automation and scalability improvements.

The position requires both technical expertise and strong communication skills. You'll triage security issues, coordinate with service teams, and communicate with stakeholders up to the CISO level. The role offers significant growth opportunities in security skills and operates in a follow-the-sun model across four geographical locations.

As part of AWS Security Operations, you'll work with diverse teams to ensure security issues are addressed with appropriate urgency. The role combines hands-on security work with strategic planning, requiring expertise in systems security, networking, and programming. You'll participate in on-call rotations and have opportunities to influence security practices across Amazon.

Responsibilities For Security Engineer, AWS Cloud Security Response

  • Triage new incoming security issues and determine risk levels
  • Communicate security issues to various audiences including senior leadership
  • Participate in security promotion efforts across the company
  • Manage priorities while remaining productive and effective
  • Escalate issues appropriately based on impact
  • Identify and implement improvements to tools and processes
  • Fulfill regular on-call responsibilities
  • Coordinate security response activities for AWS products and services

Requirements For Security Engineer, AWS Cloud Security Response

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, cybersecurity, or 4+ years equivalent professional experience
  • 3+ years of experience on a Security Operations team
  • 2+ years of experience with systems, network, and/or application security
  • Understanding of best practices across multiple security disciplines/domains
  • Knowledge of networking protocols such as HTTP, DNS and TCP/IP
  • Strong knowledge of web protocols and Linux/Unix tools
  • 2+ years experience with scripting or programming languages
