Project Kuiper is Amazon's ambitious initiative to launch a constellation of Low Earth Orbit satellites providing high-speed broadband connectivity to underserved communities worldwide. As a Security Engineer on the Kuiper Security team, you'll be responsible for securing an advanced satellite broadband telecom environment end-to-end. The role combines hands-on security engineering with strategic security architecture in a startup-like environment backed by Amazon's infrastructure.
You'll work on critical security systems protecting both the satellite constellation and customer data, performing threat modeling, secure code review, and infrastructure assessments. The position requires expertise in distributed systems security, cloud security, and software development, with opportunities to work on bleeding-edge space technology.
The role offers significant autonomy in prioritizing work between proactive security initiatives and responding to team security needs. You'll collaborate with development teams to solve complex security challenges, from service-to-service authentication to securing confidential product launches. This role requires US person status due to export control regulations. The compensation is competitive, ranging from $136,000 to $212,800 base salary depending on location, plus equity and benefits. Responsibilities For Security Engineer, Kuiper Security
- Creating, updating, and maintaining threat models for Kuiper Enterprise and Manufacturing
- Manual and Automated Secure Code Review in Java or other common languages
- Network and infrastructure assessments
- Development of security automation tools
- Security training and outreach for internal development teams
- Security architecture and design guidance
- Independently solve security problems requiring novel methods
- Influence team's and partners' process, priorities, and choices
Requirements For Security Engineer, Kuiper Security
- Bachelor's degree in CS, CE, or related field, or equivalent work experience
- 5+ years delivering security software in a production environment
- 3+ years experience delivering distributed software systems in Python, Java, Rust, GoLang or C/C++
- 3+ years experience in delivering for cloud-native environments
- 3+ years experience in delivering software for Linux
- Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident, or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum
