Description For Senior Automation Engineer

Amazon's Operations team is seeking a Senior Automation Engineer to join their Reliability & Maintenance Engineering (RME) team. This role is crucial in maximizing equipment reliability and operational performance in Amazon's fulfillment centers. The position involves working with state-of-the-art technology including conveyors, sortation systems, and SCADA devices.

As a Senior Automation Engineer, you'll be responsible for maintaining and optimizing complex control systems, leading cross-functional teams, and driving continuous improvement initiatives. You'll work with cutting-edge material handling equipment (MHE) systems and provide technical leadership in system design improvements to enhance site throughput.

The role combines hands-on technical work with leadership responsibilities, including mentoring junior engineers and collaborating with various teams such as Operations, FC Start-up Team, and Safety. You'll be working in a fast-paced environment where your expertise in PLC programming, automation systems, and robotics will directly impact the efficiency of Amazon's worldwide delivery operations.

Responsibilities For Senior Automation Engineer

  • Serve as site expert for maintaining automation systems critical to operations
  • Collaborate with various teams to support MHE systems optimization
  • Maintain and troubleshoot material handling control systems
  • Monitor MHE metrics and address system performance issues
  • Provide second-level escalation support
  • Facilitate Failure Analysis and Incident Review processes
  • Perform and analyze building System Assessments
  • Communicate technical issues and project timelines to stakeholders

Requirements For Senior Automation Engineer

Java
Python
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, electrical engineering, automation engineering, or equivalent
  • 4+ years of PLC programming or automation engineering experience
  • 2+ years of process/production environment PLC-controlled automation experience
  • 2+ years of robotics work cells and control systems experience
  • 2+ years of Siemens, Allen-Bradley or Codesys Ladder Logic programming experience
  • 2+ years of electrical theory, robotics, controls components experience
  • Experience with Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS)
  • Flexible schedule including weekends, nights, and holidays
