Description For Senior Automation Engineer

Amazon's Operations division is seeking a Senior Automation Engineer to join their Reliability & Maintenance Engineering (RME) team. This role is crucial in maximizing equipment reliability and operational performance in Amazon's fulfillment centers. The position involves working with state-of-the-art technology including conveyors, sortation systems, and SCADA devices.

As a Senior Automation Engineer, you'll be responsible for maintaining and optimizing complex control systems, leading cross-functional teams, and driving continuous improvement initiatives. You'll work with cutting-edge material handling equipment (MHE) systems and provide technical leadership in system design improvements to enhance site throughput.

The role offers an opportunity to work with advanced automation technologies while solving complex technical challenges in Amazon's vast logistics network. You'll collaborate with various teams including Operations Engineering, FC Start-up Team, AFT Software teams, and the ACES team to support system optimization and project implementation.

Key aspects of the role include troubleshooting PLC/PC controllers, industrial networks, motor control systems, and electrical distribution systems. You'll be expected to monitor performance metrics, provide technical support, and mentor junior engineers. The position requires strong analytical skills for conducting failure analysis and system assessments.

Responsibilities For Senior Automation Engineer

  • Serve as the site expert for maintaining automation systems critical to operations
  • Collaborate with building Operations, Engineering teams, and Safety to support MHE systems optimization
  • Maintain and troubleshoot material handling control systems
  • Monitor MHE metrics and address system performance issues
  • Provide second-level escalation support to site technicians and automation engineers
  • Facilitate Failure Analysis and Incident Review processes
  • Perform and analyze building System Assessments

Requirements For Senior Automation Engineer

Java
Python
  • Bachelor's degree in electrical or mechanical engineering, engineering technology or equivalent, or 4+ years of professional experience
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, electrical engineering, automation engineering, or equivalent
  • 2+ years of PLC-controlled automation and issue diagnosis experience
  • 2+ years of robotics work cells and control systems experience
  • 2+ years of Siemens, Allen-Bradley or Codesys Ladder Logic programming experience
  • 2+ years of electrical theory, robotics, controls components experience
  • Experience with Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS)
