Description For Senior Automation Engineer (Multi-Site)

Amazon's Operations division is seeking a Senior Automation Engineer to support multiple last mile sites across Connecticut. This role requires up to 80% travel to oversee automation engineering at 5-10 facilities. The position is crucial for maximizing equipment reliability and operational performance in fulfillment centers through proactive controls automation and technical support.

The role involves working with state-of-the-art technology including conveyors, sortation systems, scanners, cameras, print and apply systems, and SCADA devices. The engineer will troubleshoot complex control systems, analyze performance metrics, and drive continuous improvement initiatives. They will also mentor junior engineers and lead cross-functional teams to optimize material handling equipment (MHE) systems.

The ideal candidate will have strong expertise in PLC programming, automation engineering, and robotics control systems. They should be comfortable with electrical theory, industrial networks, and various control systems including Siemens and Allen-Bradley. The position requires both technical leadership and hands-on problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities For Senior Automation Engineer (Multi-Site)

  • Serve as the site expert for maintaining automation systems critical to operations
  • Collaborate with building Operations, Engineering teams, and Safety to support MHE systems optimization
  • Maintain and troubleshoot material handling control systems
  • Monitor MHE metrics and address system performance issues
  • Provide second-level escalation support to site technicians
  • Facilitate Failure Analysis and Incident Review processes
  • Perform and analyze building System Assessments

Requirements For Senior Automation Engineer (Multi-Site)

Linux
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, electrical engineering, automation engineering, or equivalent
  • 4+ years of PLC programming or automation engineering experience
  • 2+ years of process or production environment related PLC-controlled automation experience
  • 2+ years of robotics work cells and control systems experience
  • 2+ years of Siemens, Allen-Bradley or Codesys Ladder Logic programming experience
  • 2+ years of electrical theory, robotics, controls components experience
  • Experience with Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS)
