Description For Senior Automation Engineer (Multi-Site)

Amazon's Operations division is seeking a Senior Automation Engineer to support multiple last mile sites across Massachusetts. This role is critical in maximizing equipment reliability and operational performance in fulfillment centers through proactive controls automation and technical support. The position requires up to 80% travel to oversee automation engineering across 5-10 facilities.

The role involves working with cutting-edge technology including conveyors, sortation systems, scanners, cameras, and SCADA systems. You'll be responsible for troubleshooting complex control systems, analyzing performance metrics, and leading continuous improvement initiatives. As a senior engineer, you'll mentor junior engineers and lead cross-functional teams to optimize material handling equipment (MHE) systems.

The ideal candidate will have extensive experience with PLC programming, robotics control systems, and automated equipment maintenance. You'll work closely with Operations, Engineering teams, FC Start-up Team, and Safety to support system optimization and project implementation. Key responsibilities include maintaining critical automation systems, providing technical escalation support, and driving continuous improvement through failure analysis and system assessments.

Responsibilities For Senior Automation Engineer (Multi-Site)

  • Serve as the site expert for maintaining automation systems critical to operations
  • Collaborate with building Operations, Engineering teams, and Safety to support MHE systems optimization
  • Maintain and troubleshoot material handling control systems
  • Monitor MHE metrics and address system performance issues
  • Provide second-level escalation support to site technicians
  • Facilitate Failure Analysis and Incident Review processes
  • Perform and analyze building System Assessments

Requirements For Senior Automation Engineer (Multi-Site)

Linux
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, electrical engineering, automation engineering, or equivalent, or 4+ years of PLC programming experience
  • Work a flexible schedule including weekends, nights, and holidays
  • 2+ years of process environment related PLC-controlled automation experience
  • 2+ years of robotics work cells and control systems experience
  • 2+ years of Siemens, Allen-Bradley or Codesys Ladder Logic programming experience
  • 2+ years of electrical theory, robotics, and automated equipment experience
  • Experience with Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS)
