Description For Senior Mechanical Engineer, Kuiper, Mechanical

Project Kuiper is an initiative to increase global broadband access through a constellation of 3,236 satellites in low Earth orbit (LEO). Its mission is to bring fast, affordable broadband to unserved and underserved communities around the world. This role is for a highly innovative and dynamic individual with the ability to develop, design, test and qualify hardware used in the satellite.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Designing and improving hardware designs for Kuiper Satellites
  • Conducting trade studies to optimize performance, cost, and manufacturability
  • Creating and iterating detailed CAD models
  • Analyzing load conditions using classical methods and FEA
  • Building development samples and writing test plans
  • Defining qualification plans and acceptance testing methods
  • Producing complete design packages including drawings, analysis reports, BOMs, and documentation
  • Working with vendors to ensure high-quality delivery

The ideal candidate will have experience in aerospace, space, or automotive industries, with skills in fixture development, CAD, and analytical hand calculations. They should be able to defend design decisions through technical reviews and demonstrate product performance throughout the development lifecycle.

Requirements For Senior Mechanical Engineer, Kuiper, Mechanical

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent
  • 10 years minimum work experience as a mechanical engineer in aerospace, space, or automotive industry
  • Experience in developing functional specifications, design verification plans and functional test procedures
  • Proficiency with CAD (Computer Aided Design) and PLM (Product Lifecycle Management) systems
  • Experience generating requirements that support system level functionality
