Description For Sr. System Dev Engineer, Storage Systems Team

AWS Utility Computing (UC) is at the forefront of cloud innovation, providing foundational services like S3 and EC2. This senior role in the UC organization focuses on supporting the development and management of critical AWS services including Compute, Database, Storage, IoT, Platform, and Productivity Apps.

As a Sr. System Dev Engineer on the Storage Systems team, you'll be responsible for leading hardware engineering initiatives and developing solutions that power AWS's massive cloud infrastructure. The role combines deep technical expertise in Linux systems, storage hardware, and software development with leadership responsibilities.

Key aspects of the role include:

  • Leading the Hardware Engineering System Development effort across multiple teams
  • Developing automation software and tools following best practices
  • Working with EC2, EBS, and S3 teams to ensure storage hardware meets functionality requirements
  • Building and maintaining deployment pipelines and monitoring systems

Responsibilities For Sr. System Dev Engineer, Storage Systems Team

  • Lead the Hardware Engineering System Development effort
  • Define and build software and enabling tools
  • Work across internal HWEng teams to ensure new storage hardware addresses functionality needs
  • Work with internal customers to identify potential problems
  • Build, manage, and deploy pipelines for rapid deployment
  • Build monitoring tools and metrics for hardware
  • Debug Linux boot and runtime problems on ARM and x86
  • Design and build system-level software at scale

  • 4+ years of non-internship professional software development experience
  • 2+ years of designing or architecting of new and existing systems experience

  • 4+ years of deploying and operating in a Linux/Unix environment experience
  • 5+ years of systems design, software development, operations, automation, and process improvement experience
  • Experience leading the design, build and deployment of complex software solutions in production
