System Development Engineer, AFT Platform Engineering & Services

Amazon Fulfillment Technology (AFT) is seeking a System Development Engineer to join their Platform Engineering & Services team. This role is crucial in helping to promise, plan, and execute the delivery of millions of packages to customers worldwide. The team's systems handle millions of requests per second and make business recommendations that impact billions of dollars annually.

As a System Development Engineer, you'll work within multiple systems to research and identify common issues, driving teams towards solutions that directly impact customer experience. The role requires strong problem-solving abilities, excellent communication skills, and the capability to work independently under pressure. You'll be responsible for identifying potential problems before they occur and implementing preventive solutions.

The position is part of AFT's Platform Engineering & Services team, which leverages data, process improvement, and innovative technologies to provide comprehensive engineering excellence services across AFT's product portfolios. The team supports mission-critical, high-volume applications that are essential to Amazon's fulfillment network.

Key responsibilities include system architecture and design, troubleshooting complex technical issues, managing security vulnerabilities, and automating processes for increased efficiency. You'll be part of a team that provides 12x7 oncall support on a rotation basis.

The ideal candidate should have strong experience in systems engineering fundamentals, including networking, storage, and operating systems. You'll need to demonstrate expertise in modern programming languages and have a track record of designing scalable systems.
