Description For Systems Development Engineer, Kuiper Devices & Systems

Project Kuiper is Amazon's ambitious low Earth orbit satellite broadband network initiative, designed to deliver fast, reliable internet to customers and communities worldwide. As a Systems Development Engineer in the Kuiper Devices & Systems team, you'll play a crucial role in supporting essential shared services and specific design-manufacturing functional domains like Printed Circuit Board and Application Specific Integrated Circuit design.

The position involves managing both physical and cloud infrastructure, with a focus on operating systems administration across Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) and Windows. You'll be responsible for server deployments, system maintenance, and infrastructure improvements while ensuring consistent uptime for engineering teams. The role requires strict adherence to change management procedures and the ability to balance urgent system needs with controlled changes.

Working in this role, you'll collaborate directly with stakeholders to gather requirements, plan improvements, and implement changes through formal control processes. Your day-to-day activities will include reviewing system alerts, performing maintenance, troubleshooting application performance issues, and implementing approved changes during designated maintenance windows. You'll also be involved in writing automation scripts and maintaining backup procedures for critical engineering data.

This position requires a unique blend of technical expertise in systems administration, automation, and infrastructure management, combined with strong project management and communication skills. The role is critical to maintaining the stability and efficiency of the systems supporting satellite development operations.

The ideal candidate will have experience with large-scale infrastructure, programming skills in modern languages, and a strong background in Linux/Unix systems. Knowledge of Windows Server and experience with distributed systems at scale is highly valued. This is an excellent opportunity to join Amazon's innovative space technology initiative and work on cutting-edge satellite communication systems.
