Description For Systems Development Engineer, Managed Operations

AWS is launching its first European Sovereign Cloud (ESC), a groundbreaking development in utility computing. This role within the AWS Managed Operations team is crucial for building and leading operations and development teams focused on high-availability AWS services like EC2, S3, Dynamo, Lambda, and Bedrock, specifically for EU customers.

The position combines hands-on technical leadership with strategic influence on AWS service evolution. You'll work directly with technology leaders to enhance operations and improve key metrics including availability, reliability, latency, performance, and efficiency. The role involves participating in on-call rotations and contributing to incident resolution.

As a Systems Development Engineer, you'll be part of AWS Utility Computing (UC), which drives product innovations from foundational services to cutting-edge features. The team supports various AWS services including Compute, Database, Storage, IoT, Platform, and Productivity Apps.

The ideal candidate brings 3+ years of software development experience, strong Linux and networking fundamentals, and proven ability to troubleshoot complex systems. You'll need proficiency in languages like Java, TypeScript, Python, or Ruby, plus experience with cloud systems and high-availability services.

  • Oversee the launch of the European Sovereign Cloud (ESC) in 2025
  • Work closely with global AWS teams and influence the evolution of AWS services and technology
  • Collaborate with technology leaders to enhance day-to-day operations
  • Ensure improvements in availability, reliability, latency, performance, and efficiency of the ESC
  • Participate in on-call rotations to resolve incidents occurring out-of-hours
  • Deliver scalable services and ensure high-availability experience for EU customers

Requirements For Systems Development Engineer, Managed Operations

  • 3+ years of experience in software development or related field with proficiency in at least one modern programming language such as Java, Typescript, Python, or Ruby
  • 3+ years of experience with Linux, using the command line and basic administration, and computer networking fundamentals

  • Experience supporting cloud systems or other services
  • Proficient troubleshooting and anticipating problems that affect the performance, reliability, or availability of software systems
