Description For Firmware Engineer - Instrument Engineering

Apple's Instrument Engineering team is seeking a talented Firmware Engineer to join their innovative hardware division. This role is part of a small, specialized team that designs and productizes Software Defined Radios and precision RF and Analog Test Equipment. These tools are crucial for testing, calibrating, and researching cellular, 5G, Satellite communications, WiFi, BT, mmWave, UWB, and NFC radios in millions of Apple devices including iPhones, iPads, Macs, and Apple Watches.

As a Firmware Engineer, you'll be at the forefront of developing next-generation wireless communication products, with a particular focus on Satellite communication technologies. You'll work with embedded systems running Linux, RTOS, and bare metal firmware, requiring deep expertise in C++ and C programming. The role involves close collaboration with cross-functional teams including RF system engineers, software engineers, DSP engineers, FPGA logic designers, and hardware engineers.

The position offers an excellent opportunity to work on internal Apple products from concept to mass production, maintaining the company's exacting standards for quality, accuracy, and functionality. You'll be part of a team where each member brings unique expertise to collectively create products that match or exceed commercially available offerings.

The compensation package is highly competitive, ranging from $175,800 to $312,200 base salary, plus additional benefits including comprehensive medical coverage, stock options, and education reimbursement. This role requires occasional international travel (10%) and is based in Cupertino, California, where you'll work alongside some of the industry's best talent in Apple's state-of-the-art facilities.

  • Experience designing embedded firmware in C++ and C
  • Recent development experience in Linux, macOS, parallel processing, multi-core or multi-threaded software development
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Bachelor's degree required, Master's or above highly valued in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Math, Physics or other Engineering domains
  • International travel of 10% is required
