ML Prototyping Engineer - Camera Incubation

We are looking for a creative prototyping engineer with excellent practical knowledge of the applications of deep learning, and in particular generative AI, to domains including computational imaging, contextual multi-modal sensing, and camera control. The role is part of the Camera Incubation team, a multi-disciplinary group responsible for prototyping new concepts and technologies for future imaging and multimodal sensing experiences. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in developing generative AI algorithms for computational photography and computer vision, experience with multimodal sensing problems, and hands-on programming skills (preferably in PyTorch). The role requires a self-motivated, creative innovator with a passion for bringing exciting new sensing technologies to Apple products. The position offers opportunities to work on cutting-edge technologies and collaborate with design and product teams to bring new features across the Apple product line.

Key Responsibilities:

• Develop generative AI algorithms for computational photography and computer vision
• Create data-driven deep learning solutions for multimodal sensing problems
• Prototype innovative concepts using programming skills (PyTorch preferred)
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to bring new features to Apple products
• Articulate motivations, pros, cons, and risks of particular approaches

Qualifications:

• Advanced degree (Ph.D./M.Sc.) in AI/ML, EECS, or a similar field
• 5+ years of proven experience in applied deep learning for imaging
• Strong background in generative AI algorithms for computational photography and computer vision
• Experience with multimodal sensing problems
• Proficiency in programming, particularly with PyTorch
• Comfort using state-of-the-art Transformer and Diffuser models
• Knowledge of camera acquisition control
• Experience in an iterative prototyping environment
• Ability to thrive in a cross-functional work environment and effectively present across disciplines
