Description For Noise & Vibration Engineer | Mechanical Noise

At Apple, we're seeking a Noise & Vibration Engineer to join our elite Acoustics team. This role is crucial in minimizing distracting audible noises and optimizing sound quality across our product line. As a mechanical Noise & Vibration engineer, you'll evaluate noise from fans, keyboards, trackpads, and buttons, set limits, develop metrics, and work with cross-functional teams to find root causes of problems. You'll collaborate with module, system, functional, and manufacturing teams to optimize the sound of Apple products.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Evaluating noise objectively and subjectively across all Apple product lines
  • Developing metrics to quantify issues and applying user studies to establish thresholds
  • Participating in cross-functional teams to find root causes of problems
  • Working with design owners to provide guidance on noise and vibration issues
  • Collaborating with other N&V engineers at overseas manufacturing sites

We're looking for a creative problem solver with attention to detail who thrives in a fast-paced, multi-tasking environment. While most of our engineers have advanced degrees in Acoustics or an equivalent field, we're open to candidates who have gained expertise through different paths.

Preferred qualifications include:

  • Acoustic and vibration measurement skills, including experience in anechoic/hemi-anechoic chambers
  • Data analysis skills for transient and quasi-steady signals
  • Critical listening abilities with excellent hearing over the audible frequency range
  • Knowledge of acoustics and vibration principles
  • Experience with high-volume consumer electronics and low-noise measurements (beneficial but not required)

At Apple, you'll work with cutting-edge technology and contribute to products loved by millions worldwide. Join us in shaping the future of sound in technology!
