As a Product Design Engineer on the Acoustics Transducer Design team, you will design and validate custom speaker modules for Apple's highly space-constrained products. You will lead the mechanical design of speaker module assembly and their components, partnering with Transducer Design Engineers and system Product Design Engineers to balance tradeoffs between acoustic performance, mechanical design, manufacturing, and reliability.
Key responsibilities include:
- Creating 3D CAD and 2D drawings for speaker modules and components
- Reviewing designs with suppliers and multi-functional teams
- Handling multiple projects simultaneously
- Pursuing innovative ideas to improve acoustic performance and reliability
- Ensuring high-volume manufacturability of speaker components and modules
- Developing test plans, generating reliability specifications, and conducting failure analysis
This role requires creative design work, proactive problem-solving, and the ability to work with global suppliers. You'll be part of a team that pushes the boundaries of what's possible in acoustic design for Apple's cutting-edge products.
Responsibilities For Product Design Engineer | Acoustics
- Design and validate custom speaker modules for space-constrained products
- Lead mechanical design of speaker module assembly and components
- Create 3D CAD and 2D drawings for speaker modules and components
- Review designs with suppliers and multi-functional teams
- Balance tradeoffs between acoustic performance, mechanical design, manufacturing, and reliability
- Pursue innovative ideas to improve acoustic performance and reliability
- Ensure high-volume manufacturability of speaker components and modules
- Develop test plans and generate reliability specifications
- Perform failure analysis and conduct experiments to find design solutions
Requirements For Product Design Engineer | Acoustics
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent field (preferred but not required)
- Mechanical design experience generating 3D CAD and 2D drawings (NX experience preferred)
- Understanding of tooling design
- Experience designing and selecting materials for mass-produced injection molded plastic parts and stamped metal parts
- Experience in consumer electronics industry with small or micro electromechanical assemblies
- Proactive problem-solving skills
- Ability to work with global suppliers
- Understanding of dimensional data, tolerance stack analysis, and GD&T
