Apple's Environment & Supply Chain Innovation team is seeking a Smarter Chemistry Materials Engineer/Scientist to create and drive best-in-class practices for safer & sustainable materials across Apple's supply chain. This role involves collaborating with cross-functional teams and industry partners to innovate and improve materials used in Apple products, ensuring they meet regulatory standards and exceed industry benchmarks for safety and sustainability.
Key responsibilities include:
- Leading efforts to define success criteria for safer & sustainable materials
- Developing a framework for evaluating material safety and environmental impact
- Collaborating with design teams on R&D for safer chemicals and materials
- Integrating safer materials into new product processes
- Guiding the development of alternative materials
- Advocating for industry standards and influencing regulations
- Collaborating with academic and industry partners to push innovation boundaries
The ideal candidate will have:
- A Master's degree in Chemistry, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or related field (PhD is a plus)
- 7+ years of relevant experience, including 5+ years in materials or chemical product development
- Knowledge of green chemistry principles and chemical impact assessment
- Excellent communication and problem-solving skills
- Passion for sustainability and driving positive environmental outcomes
- Willingness to travel 20% internationally
