Apple's Wireless Technologies and Ecosystems team is seeking a Wireless Systems Architect/Researcher to work on influencing the definition of next-generation wireless architecture and systems/standards. This role involves working with different technical teams to define next-generation wireless and network features, driving external infrastructure vendors and carriers to full feature realization, and defining innovations in various areas of the cellular protocol stack and network architecture.
Key responsibilities include:
- Leading one or more research project initiatives in a cross-functional structure
- Representing Apple's interests within forums and collaborative project activities
- Building intellectual property and participating in industry/academic research projects
- Contributing to future IEEE and 3GPP standards
The ideal candidate will have:
- Proven understanding of state-of-the-art (5G/A) cellular and/or non-cellular communications systems and technologies
- 10+ years of experience in research & standards (3GPP, IEEE), focusing on the network stack, RAN, and Core Network aspects
- Track record of bringing innovations to standards and products
- Familiarity with emerging wireless technology areas like AI/ML, cloud-native, edge computing, and semantic communications
- Experience in simulation and modeling work relevant to 3GPP and IEEE contributions
- Hands-on experience with programming languages like C/C++, Python, etc.
- Excellent collaborative, interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills
- Strong analytical and problem-solving approach with results orientation
