Description For Customer Reliability Engineer, Infrastructure

Astronomer, the company behind the industry-leading Astro DataOps platform powered by Apache Airflow®, is seeking a Customer Reliability Engineer specializing in infrastructure. This role is part of the Customer Reliability Engineering (CRE) team, which is crucial for ensuring the success of customers using Astronomer's managed Airflow service.

The position offers a unique opportunity to become an expert in cloud infrastructure across AWS, Azure, and GCP, with a strong focus on Kubernetes and reliability engineering. As a CRE, you'll be responsible for operating, monitoring, and maintaining the platform to ensure high availability and reliable operations for over 700 enterprise customers.

This role is ideal for someone who has a deep passion for technology and aims to achieve expertise in everything they learn. The position requires 4 years of professional experience and combines technical expertise with customer interaction, allowing you to work directly with data engineers, system admins, and DevOps teams while contributing to the platform's evolution.

Key aspects of the role include maintaining 24x7 coverage through a specified 6-hour pager period during regular work hours (9AM-3PM Eastern US), participating in weekend on-call rotations, and spending up to 25% of your time on impactful side projects. The compensation package includes a competitive salary range of $130,000 - $150,000 plus equity, reflecting the role's importance.

Responsibilities For Customer Reliability Engineer, Infrastructure

  • Learn and build expertise in Kubernetes, Cloud engineering, and Cloud networking
  • Work directly with customers' data engineers, system admins, DevOps teams, and management
  • Own the customer experience, working directly with customers to prioritize and solve issues and meet SLAs
  • Provide feedback to shape product direction
  • Help maintain 24x7 coverage through specified 6-hour pager period
  • Participate in paid on-call rotation for weekend coverage
  • Spend up to 25% time on side projects contributing to Astronomer's success
