Astronomer, the company behind the industry-leading unified DataOps platform Astro powered by Apache Airflow®, is seeking a Senior Software Engineer with an infrastructure focus. This role is part of the dataplane management team, which is responsible for designing, building, and managing the infrastructure that powers customer workloads across hundreds of Kubernetes clusters.
The position offers an exciting opportunity to work on mission-critical infrastructure at scale, developing features for core infrastructure such as workload identity, multitenancy, cross-region disaster recovery, and cloud quota management. You'll be directly involved in building and scaling Astro, their flagship product that enables sophisticated data orchestration for major enterprises worldwide.
The ideal candidate should bring strong experience in building and operating large-scale SaaS infrastructures, with expertise in languages like Golang or Java. Knowledge of distributed systems, particularly Kubernetes, is highly valued, as is the ability to design secure, scalable systems that can integrate with various customer environments.
What makes this role particularly compelling is the chance to work on cutting-edge cloud infrastructure technology, managing hundreds (and eventually thousands) of Kubernetes clusters across different cloud providers. You'll collaborate closely with core runtime, platform, and other product teams, contributing to the overall system's performance, reliability, and scalability.
The company offers competitive compensation ($180,000 - $210,000) with equity and comprehensive benefits. Astronomer values diverse experiences and backgrounds, welcoming candidates with unconventional career paths. As a remote-first company, they provide the flexibility to work from anywhere while being part of a team that's powering data innovation at over 700 leading enterprises worldwide.
This role is perfect for engineers who are passionate about infrastructure, enjoy solving complex distributed systems challenges, and want to make a significant impact in the data orchestration space. The position offers extensive growth opportunities and the chance to work with cutting-edge technology while building solutions that help businesses do more with their data.
