Astronomer, the company behind the industry-leading Astro DataOps platform powered by Apache Airflow®, is seeking a Senior Software Engineer with an infrastructure focus. This role is part of the dataplane management team, which designs, builds, and owns the infrastructure running customer workloads across hundreds of Kubernetes clusters.
The position offers an opportunity to work on critical infrastructure components, including workload identity, multitenancy, cross-region disaster recovery, and cloud quota management. You'll be instrumental in scaling Astro, their flagship product that enables data orchestration for major enterprises worldwide.
The ideal candidate brings experience with large-scale SaaS infrastructure, distributed systems (particularly Kubernetes), and expertise in languages like Golang or Java. You'll work in a remote-first environment, collaborating with core runtime, platform, and product teams to build resilient, secure, and scalable systems.
What makes this role unique is the scale and complexity of the infrastructure challenges you'll tackle, managing hundreds (eventually thousands) of Kubernetes clusters across cloud providers. The position offers competitive compensation ($180,000-$210,000) plus equity, and welcomes candidates with unconventional backgrounds who meet the core qualifications.
If you're passionate about infrastructure, have experience with fleet management, and want to impact how the world's largest companies handle data orchestration, this role offers an exciting opportunity to shape the future of data infrastructure at scale.
