This innovative system enables the creation of new classes of micromachines through a unique multi-process, multi-material approach that transcends traditional semiconductor manufacturing limitations. Located in Berkeley, California, we're seeking a Senior Materials R&D Engineer to join our cutting-edge team.

The role offers an exciting opportunity to work at the intersection of materials science and advanced manufacturing. You'll be responsible for developing novel strategies for materials integration in market-defining commercial devices, leveraging both conventional and innovative processing techniques. The position requires a deep understanding of materials science and hands-on experience with processing and characterizing materials for high-performance microsystems.

As a Sr. Materials R&D Engineer, you'll lead the development of innovative materials processing technologies, design and execute experiments, and work with advanced thin-film processes. You'll utilize sophisticated characterization techniques and develop material property tests to evaluate mechanical, electrical, magnetic, and thermal performance. The role also involves leading process development initiatives and mentoring team members.

The ideal candidate brings 10+ years of experience, with a strong background in materials, mechanical engineering, or chemical engineering. Responsibilities For Sr. Materials R&D Engineer

  • Develop and implement innovative materials processing technologies for microsystems and packaging
  • Design and execute experiments for processing-structure-property relationships
  • Employ advanced thin-film processes for new enabling additive and subtractive techniques
  • Apply advanced bulk and surface characterization techniques
  • Develop and perform material property tests
  • Analyze and document procedures, experimental data, and findings
  • Participate in process development and automation activities
  • Lead process development and automation activities
  • Guide and mentor teammates in process integration

Requirements For Sr. Materials R&D Engineer

  • Bachelor's degree, 10+ years of work experience (Master's degree preferred)
  • Hands-on lab experience developing thin-film material technologies
  • Proven record applying fundamental engineering principles to material interfaces
  • Working knowledge of metallurgical engineering principles
  • Experience with various characterization techniques (SEM, EDS, EBSD, XRF, XPS, XRD, TEM)
  • Experience leading technical projects and mentoring team members
  • Experience with material joining and advanced packaging (preferred)
  • Experience with CAD software for 2D layouts (preferred)
