Description For Process Chemical Engineer

South Kirkby Waste Treatment Facility is seeking a Process Chemical Engineer to join their team. Reporting to the Site Operations Manager, you'll be responsible for the day-to-day control of the facility, ensuring critical metrics are monitored, reviewed, and acted upon. You'll play a key role in safety, compliance, and commercial viability of the plant. The facility operates a 240,000 tonne per annum capacity Waste Treatment facility comprising a Residual Waste Treatment Facility (RWTF), Anaerobic Digestion plant (AD), Materials Recycling Facility (MRF), and In-Vessel Composting Facility (IVC).

Key responsibilities include:

  • Driving a culture of safety excellence
  • Coordinating with operational colleagues on technical and process requirements
  • Setting and monitoring control limits for key performance parameters
  • Ensuring quality of plant outputs
  • Providing solutions to technical variances
  • Daily analysis of plant data for optimal operational setup
  • Developing and managing a 'process management system'
  • Training and developing site staff
  • Regular reporting of plant performance
  • Identifying and implementing process improvements
  • Managing and assessing plant process changes
  • Benchmarking wider industries for best practices
  • Liaising with regulators for facility compliance

The ideal candidate will have a passion for waste, recycling, and sustainability, and thrive in an operational environment. They should have strong interpersonal skills, be a great communicator, and comfortable interacting with colleagues at all levels. A proactive approach to problem-solving, organizational skills, and logical thinking are essential. The role requires a degree in chemical or process engineering, working towards chartered status, with 3-5 years of experience in a front-line operational role. Knowledge of Lean methodologies and their application in a process/operational plant environment is also required.
