Description For Systems Development Engineer

BorgWarner is seeking a Systems Development Engineer for their Arden, NC location to join their Software and Controls Development Team. This role focuses on developing engine software including power electronics, motors, valves, sensors, actuators, and electronic control units. The position operates at the intersection of software development and systems engineering, playing a crucial role in designing, developing, and maintaining complex systems.

The ideal candidate will work with a global team to ensure system requirements are defined and software solutions are developed and validated to meet customer needs. They will be responsible for system level software development, including guiding and specifying Software requirements for system operation and functional safety.

Responsibilities For Systems Development Engineer

  • Define system level software technical requirements and specifications
  • Support System Development Lead and System Architect
  • Lead multidisciplinary teams on software projects
  • Interface with Systems Engineering to ensure software requirements are documented
  • Provide analyses to identify the best product architecture
  • Take lead role in design reviews
  • Develop qualification plans for products and sub-systems
  • Conduct system-level and unit-level verification and validation testing
  • Diagnose and resolve technical issues
  • Write bug fixes, automate tasks, implement monitoring

Requirements For Systems Development Engineer

Python
Java
  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering or similar field
  • 5 years of experience in software design and development
  • Experience with SW Requirements, Architecture, Design, or Integration & Test
  • Knowledge of software development processes and tools such as Polarian, Jira, Bitbucket
  • Software project management including branch management
  • Knowledge of hardware software interface documentation
  • Understanding of SIL & HIL testing
  • Knowledge of Risk assessments or FMEA's ISO Functional safety
  • Basic knowledge of model-based software development (e.g. MATLAB Simulink)
  • Basic electronics knowledge including motors, drives, and sensors
  • Proficiency in programming languages (Python, Java, C++)
