Bumble Inc. is seeking a Staff Backend Engineer to join their Trust and Safety team, playing a crucial role in maintaining platform integrity and user security. This position represents the highest level of individual contribution within the Trust and Safety group, where you'll drive technical direction and solutions for complex systems ensuring community safety.
The role involves working across multiple teams, collaborating with engineers, product managers, ML engineers, and data scientists to build and scale systems that proactively detect and mitigate harmful behavior. You'll be responsible for designing and optimizing backend services (primarily in PHP) to handle high-volume data flows, improve system performance, and enhance security.
As a Staff Engineer, you'll tackle Trust and Safety's most challenging technical problems, providing leadership and architectural decisions while focusing on scalable solutions. The position involves working with vast amounts of data and signals to build infrastructure supporting all Bumble Inc.'s brands (Bumble, Badoo, Official, Geneva, and Fruitz).
Key responsibilities include partnering with product and engineering managers to define Trust objectives, implementing robust security measures, mentoring other engineers, and contributing to a healthy engineering culture. You'll also stay current with emerging trends in Trust and Safety, bringing new solutions to the team.
The ideal candidate brings extensive backend engineering experience, strong proficiency in PHP or similar languages, and expertise in designing RESTful APIs and microservices. You should have experience with containerization, cloud services, and a deep understanding of databases and distributed systems.
