Description For Data Platform Engineer

Canonical, the company behind Ubuntu, is seeking engineers for their data platform team. This role focuses on building a comprehensive automation suite for multi-cloud and on-premise data solutions. The team develops managed solutions for various data stores and technologies, from big data to SQL engines.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Collaborating with a distributed team
  • Writing high-quality Python code
  • Debugging issues and interacting with upstream communities
  • Working on fault-tolerant mission-critical distributed systems

The ideal candidate should have:

  • Proven experience in Python development
  • Hands-on experience with distributed systems like Kafka and Spark
  • A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, STEM, or similar
  • Willingness to travel up to 4 times a year

Additional valuable skills include experience with:

  • Various data platform technologies (SQL, NoSQL)
  • Linux systems administration
  • Public or private cloud solutions
  • Kubernetes clusters

Responsibilities For Data Platform Engineer

  • Collaborate proactively with a distributed team

  • Discuss ideas and collaborate on finding good solutions
  • Work from home with global travel for 2 to 4 weeks per year for internal and external events
